Research

The Fraunhofer IAPT portfolio includes both collaborative and applied research on process and material level, enabling unique component designs and system solutions up to factory planning and virtualization along the complete manufacturing road and along all technology maturity levels: From basic idea and feasibility up to industrial implementation in new or existing production environment, all aspects of the Additive Manufacturing road are considered end-2-end holistically without gaps. From the application point of view, special attention is paid to the socially relevant future topics of Life Science, Energy, Mobility as well as Security and Defense. The overall goal is that large-scale industrial use of Additive Manufacturing technologies will contribute significantly to increased productivity, conservation of resources, resilience and prosperity.

Shaping medical innovations together: When visions become additive reality.

Medical technology is a constantly growing and challenging field for innovations and their application. Additive manufacturing (AM) and artificial intelligence (AI) in particular have shown that they are important building blocks in modern, patient-specific care. The future field of life science is conducting research in both areas of expertise and is already actively supporting companies, hospitals and doctors in the realization and implementation of the new medical workflow.

Together with doctors from the University Medical Center Hamburg Eppendorf (UKE), Fraunhofer IAPT employees are working in interdisciplinary teams to develop exclusively needs-based solutions for individualized and optimized patient care, both invivo and exvivio.

The focus here is on the implementation of additive technologies in the entire life science environment and holistic integration into the corresponding workflow.
