Research

The Medical Structure provides a range of infrastructural facilities to support research at the UKE.

In addition to the central research building "Campus Research", these are so-called core areas such as the Central Medical Library and the Research Animal Facility. An overview of the large-scale equipment located at the UKE, some of which is for shared use, is also presented.

Since 2015, the UKE has had a research information system, which provides you with detailed information about scientific research at the UKE via the research portal.

Education

Together with the UKE, the Medical Faculty of the University of Hamburg educates 2,800 medical students and 600 dental students. The UKE and its subsidiaries alone have 1,629 beds available for this purpose. Bedside training is supported by the university outpatient clinics and theoretical institutes.

In addition to Hamburg as a city, the iMED model course of study – which combines knowledge of the natural sciences, basic medical subjects and clinical subjects in theory and practice – is certainly the main reason for the 380 students from Germany and abroad who start each winter semester to choose to study medicine on the Elbe.
