Shaping the Future of the Life Sciences Hub – Together
With Strategy 2030, Life Science Nord is providing new impetus for the industrial healthcare sector in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Under the motto Networking - Informing - Positioning, the location is being strengthened in a targeted manner: through greater visibility, increased innovative strength and the expansion of regional expertise.
Developed in a broad-based, participatory process, the strategy forms the framework for action for the coming years. It pursues clear objectives - from international positioning and visibility to location development and the promotion of sustainable structures. In this way, Life Science North will continue to develop the region into one of the leading European hotspots for medical technology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and digital health.
Strategic topics and goals
The LSN Strategy 2030 focuses on six central topics. They form the framework for our work as a cluster organization - clearly focused on networking, information and positioning.
1. Increase the visibility of LSN
Goal:
LSN is one of the most visible German and European life science clusters in the relevant sectors.
To increase its visibility, LSN networks cluster-relevant organizations and stakeholders in a targeted manner, thus strengthening personal and institutional exchange. Across all communication channels, the cluster's content, offerings and successes are presented in a way that is appropriate for the target audience. A comprehensive communication strategy with clear USPs accompanies these activities. In addition, a lighthouse event will be designed to highlight the cluster's performance. Specialists are seen as an independent aspect of visibility, e.g. through presence at educational locations.
2. Srengthen innovative power
Goal:
LSN has driven innovation dynamics and the transfer between science and industry as well as start-ups. In the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical technology and digital health sectors.
LSN specifically strengthens the integration of innovation players and strategic institutions in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. As a central platform, the cluster offers guidance on innovation cooperation and funding opportunities. The knowledge and technology transfer between science, industry and start-ups is also being expanded. Special focus is placed on the areas of infection and hygiene, personalized medicine as well as data and AI-based developments.
3. Expand life science location
Goal:
LSN has expanded its position in order to strengthen the location in the life science sector and thereby increase the economic footprint of the industries as a whole.
LSN is actively involved in dialog with regional partners and supports the expansion of strategically relevant locations. The cluster provides targeted support for growth processes, for example in the context of relocations or expansions, and supports the implementation of regional life science-related activities - both nationally and internationally. The aim is to expand the network and continuously strengthen the cluster potential.
4. Promoting skills in the cluster
Goal:
LSN has further developed its technical and organizational expertise so that future life science topics can be identified and addressed even faster.
To further develop its expertise, LSN specifically addresses relevant specialist target groups and activates existing potential together with network players. As a neutral mediator, the cluster provides information on trending topics such as AI, robotics and quantum computing. At the same time, new key topics are developed via cooperation projects and innovation ecosystems and underpinned with suitable measures to strengthen the specialist positioning.
5. Focusing on internationalization
Goal:
LSN has initiated new economic and scientific collaborations with and for its members in the key regions of (Northern) Europe and the USA and has deepened and expanded existing cooperative relationships.
LSN is specifically expanding cooperation with partners in (Northern) Europe, in particular Scandinavia and the North Sea and Baltic Sea regions. Existing international relationships, including those with the USA and Japan, are deepened and maintained. Content from the “Visibility” topic area is adapted internationally in order to position the cluster on relevant platforms. Target regions are regularly reviewed and their strategic importance for the cluster reassessed.
6. Advancing the organizational development of LSN
Goal:
LSN has a sustainable personnel and financial structure to ensure that services with a focus on networking, information and positioning can continue to be provided professionally for members.
LSN is specifically strengthening its internal structure in order to use resources efficiently. This includes intensifying cooperation with members and partners as well as the transparent preparation and communication of its own range of services. The strategic foundations of the cluster - particularly with regard to personnel and financing - are regularly reviewed and further developed in order to ensure the sustainability and quality of services in the long term.
Three partners - one common goal
Life Science Nord Management GmbH is supported by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the State of Schleswig-Holstein, and Life Science Nord e.V.
As equal shareholders, they oversee the cluster's strategic management, content development, and financial operations. This close cooperation establishes the foundation for coordinated, cross-state cluster policy, aiming to strengthen the region's life science sector's innovation and competitiveness in the long term.
