Biotech and Pharma in Northern Germany – The best for the labs, the best from the labs: tools, research, innovations & solutions for global healthcare.

BioTech in the North
An industry on the move!

The BioTech region in Schleswig-Holstein has produced some impressive biotechnological innovations. These include the development of therapies to fight cancer, drugs to treat rare diseases and solutions from the field of regenerative medicine. Some players from the north have also recently made groundbreaking advances in genomics or personalized medicine.

Broad range with a northern German flavor

During the pandemic years, biotech players from northern Germany were able to demonstrate their skills and expertise in the best possible way. Companies and research institutions in the region played a crucial role in the research and development of vaccines and therapies to combat the virus. These efforts underscore the importance of the region's biotech industry to global health.

The location on the water brings advantages – and not just in terms of the quality of life in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Due to its coastal location, the region is also a center for marine biotechnology. Research institutions and companies are working to develop new biotechnological applications in the field of marine biology, sustainable fisheries and the use of marine resources.

World market leaders today – and tomorrow?

The LSN region is home to pharmaceutical companies such as Nordmark and Medac, which are among the world's leading manufacturers in their fields. In addition to the long-standing players in the market, new ventures with big goals are continually establishing themselves – such as Provirex, which is working on a therapy for HIV.

Evotec has made a name for itself worldwide as a drug discovery company with numerous collaborations and groundbreaking development successes. Numerous medium-sized companies also offer analytical as well as diagnostic products and services on the global market. For example, laboratory instruments from Eppendorf SE can be found in nearly every laboratory around the globe – likewise, laboratories in 140 countries use test systems from EUROIMMUN daily to diagnose autoimmune and infectious diseases as well as allergies or to perform gene analyses.
